If the fear of stinky, sweaty armpits has stopped you from trying a natural deodorant, rest assured you are not alone. Even the most ardent green beauty lover is reluctant to make the switch. The good news is our natural deodorants are safe for the entire family and work just as well, or better than, their chemical laden counter parts. These aluminum free deodorants will leave you feeling (and smelling) fresh and clean at the end of the day - all without inhibiting your sweat glands.
Like most things, our aromas can also be highly variable. Depending on the composition of your sweat, you might experience strong odors or have little or no smell at all. As you likely have discovered, how odorous you become can vary from day to day depending on your exercise levels, diet and stress or hormone levels. With so many natural deodorants to choose from, it can be hard to know where to start or which one is going to work best for you. The trick in selecting the best natural deodorant is recognizing not all natural deodorants offer the same degree of protection. The following tips will help ensure you select one that works with your body chemistry.
Regardless of what you try – be sure to choose a deodorant without aluminum that is completely free from harmful chemicals or additives including parabens, sulfates, phthalates, petroleum, phosphates, DEA, or dyes.
Body odor is natural and normal. It is caused when sweat mixes with the microscopic bacteria, which live naturally on our skin. The bacteria can multiply quickly causing the dreaded funky smell we all want to avoid. If you have found your current natural deodorant doesn’t keep you totally stink free all day long then you are likely using the wrong strength. The right natural deodorant should keep odor at bay regardless of our activity level or “B.O. factor”.
Bizarre Fact: If you have dry earwax (as opposed to wet & sticky) you might not need any deodorant. Turns out you might be missing the gene which causes sweating and BO. Apparently a small change in a gene know as ABCC11 is connected to both underarm odor production and whether or not a person as wet or dry earwax. 1
While it can take some trial and error to find the best natural deodorant that works with your body chemistry, it is important to select one that is strong enough for your needs in order to keep you stink free. While you can certainly pick an aluminum free deodorant stronger than you need – you will likely be disappointed if you select a weaker one.
If you smell like you haven’t showered in a week at the end of the day, you likely have a High B.O. factor. Other tell tale signs include if you can detect an off-putting smell after exercising or find your self needing to reapply deodorant through the day to help combat sweat and unwanted stink.
While the thought of smearing a deodorant cream paste on your pits with your bare hands might not thrill you – the results will. Editors Choice Winner for the Beauty Shortlist Awards 2017 – Black Chicken Remedies Axilla deodorant is a game changer.
Made from all natural and certified organic ingredients. Shea butter and coconut oil makes the formula blend into the skin easily, while sodium bicarbonate, kaolin clay and arrowroot powder help keep you dry. While you do have to rub a pea-size dollop from the jar into your armpits – it blends in clear and absorbs quickly, so you won't have any residue rub off on your clothes (always a plus). This unisex deodorant has never let us down —even on the most humid Florida days. While it might seems expensive, the jar lasts 4-5 months with daily use.
Mabrook & Co. Clean Deodorant is a relatively new deodorant. This ultra nourishing blend contains Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Bees Wax and Vitamin E which help nourish and soothe skin while a blend of pure essential oils kills odor causing bacteria. Added Arrowroot and Sodium Bicarbonate help to absorb sweat keeping you feeling fresh and clean. It glides on super smooth and with 3 lightly fragrant scents to choose from your sure to find one you love.
Please note a small percentage of people can be highly sensitive to Sodium Bicarbonate. If so, do not apply directly after shaving or consider a sodium bicarbonate free formula like Sudsatorium Back In Black.
If you are one of the lucky ones who doesn't get much BO, there are numerous stick, sprays, roll-ons and crystals that might do the trick. If you are closer to the medium end of the scale – we recommend Mabrook & Co Clean Deodorant.
Back In Black by Sudsatorium is a fantastic choice if you are on the low to medium end of the BO scale. The Sodium Bicarbonate free formula also makes it a great choice for those with sensitive skin.
