      • Dry body brushing is a natural health practice that has been used for years because the health benefits are so extensive.  It can improve venous blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, release toxins, exfoliate dead skin, reduce ingrown hairs and many other health benefits.  Brushing may also assist in reducing the effects of dry skin conditions like Psoriasis, Keratosis Pilaris, and Eczema.

Dry Body Brushing is super easy, feels amazing and is great for your skin. Dry Body Brushing aids the body’s lymphatic drainage and for that reason, all brush strokes are toward the major lymph nodes in the body. Pick up your brush and get to work, starting with the lower part of your body first with swift, gentle upward strokes.

        1. Start at soles of feet, stroking brush from toes to heel. Continue on top of the foot from toes to ankles and ending at Achilles tendon behind ankle. Cover both sides of the foot.
        2. Brush slowly and gently. Continue upward brushing strokes up the leg ensuring to cover the entire leg, up toward the lymph node in the groin area.
        3. Do your buttocks, arms and as much of your back as you can get to. Remember to avoid areas where you might have scratches or anything that would make contact with the brush painful.
        4. Don't use the regular brush on your face, as your skin is far too delicate. Use a specially designed facial brush like our Jute Dry Face Brush.  Face brushing is a fantastic skin health practice that will help with anti-aging, giving life and lustre to your skin, and feels amazing (just like body brushing!)
        5. Once you're finished, you can shower, which washes away all the dead skin cells you've loosened. Water set at warm or hot further increases your circulation.

This routine can be done before every shower or just three or four times a week — whatever your schedule allows and your needs call for.

Please note, since skin brushing is stimulating, doing it in the morning seems to be preferable to "waking up" your skin at night.

What are the benefits of dry body brushing?

Dry body brushing is a natural health practice, which involves brushing over the dry skin dry and usually followed with a bath or shower.  It is believed to help detoxify by increasing blood circulation and promoting lymph flow/drainage. It also stimulates your nervous system, which can make you feel invigorated afterward.

Dry brushing also unclogs pores in the exfoliation process.

Bodecare Dry Body Brushing system has been developed to aid the body’s lymphatic drainage and for that reason, all brush strokes are toward the major lymph nodes in the body.

How many times a week should you dry brush your skin? Brushing once a day, just before a shower or bath is perfect.  Morning, noon or night it doesn’t matter, just when it fits in with your schedule.  Do not dry brush on freshly shaved or waxed skin as this may be too irritating.  Wait for a day or two to start dry brushing again, especially if you have a firm dry body brush

How long does it take to dry brush your body? Dry body brushing is one of the simplest and most economical ways to improve your skin. It can be as quick (or long.... sometimes you will want to take your time and be extra thorough) as you like. It can take anywhere from 2 minutes to 7 minutes.  And you'll LOVE it!  We find the best time to dry body brush is right before you shower. Always use your brush on dry skin.

Can dry brushing help you get rid of cellulite?

Bodecare owner, Rebecca has been studying and treating cellulite for over 14 years. Read on for her thoughts on cellulite and dry body brushing.

"Very simply put, Cellulite is an accumulation of fat, fluid, toxins & waste all trapped by a net of hardened connective tissues under the skin.  The fat in this area is different to fat in other areas of the body, which is why when we try to lose weight, we lose it first from our non-cellulite areas such as our face, bust/chest, back, lower arms etc.   Where the place we really want to lose it is our tummy, hips and thighs."

According to Rebecca - "dry skin brushing has so many benefits for cellulite, such as exfoliation which stimulates the production of new skin cells and collagen & elastin to form in the skin.  Excites the blood flow to the skin which helps to nourish the skin with nutrients in the blood from the foods we eat.  It manually manipulates the lymphatic flow when brushig in the correct directions for the lymph which will help move those toxins and waste through the system for elimination by the body.  The firm bristle brushes will manipulate the fat in the area effectively softening and breaking the fat cells up so they can be utilised for energy when needed by the body.

Consistency is the most important part.  Cellulite takes a long time to build up in the skin.  It can be up to seven years of build up under the surface before any signs of cellulite actually show up on the skin itself.  So, just know that the cellulite can definily be improved, but it will take time.  Lifestyle changes and loving your body with some TLC will definitely give you the results you are after."

Are the bristles or handles sprayed with chemicals? No. Bodecare brush bristles are treated with boiling water for 30 minutes and left to dry, this is repeated 4 times. Timber is heat treated or kiln dried (not fumigated with chemicals).

What is dry brushing good for?

Dry body brushing helps shed dead skin cells (and encourages cell renewal), which results in smoother and brighter skin. It can also help with any pesky ingrown hairs. It is also believed to assist in improving vascular blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.
