Do I need a moisturizer and a serum? The short answer is, maybe. It really depends on your unique skin care needs. For some, a basic moisturizer might be enough. But, if you have visible signs of aging (uneven skin tone, fine lines, dry or rough patches) you will likely benefit from a little extra TLC from a more advanced skincare routine. Choose a serum with ingredients that target your specific skincare concerns and apply after cleansing (before other products).

What is the difference between a face oil, face serum and face balm? To really see improvement in your skin, you usually need to use products targeting different skin issues. Serums are the workhorse of your skincare routine – they tend to be pricier as they have a higher ration of active ingredients which target specific skin issues (e.g. hyperpigmentation, fine lines & wrinkles, anti-aging, acne etc.). Face oils can make a remarkable difference. Full of vital nutrients and essential fatty acids that leave your skin soft, supple and glowing. Moisturizers & balms hydrate the outer layers of your skin, seal in moisture and provide a protective layer. Mahealani is a concentrated waterless balm – you use a very small amount for a nourishing protective layer on top of your skin. Balms are ideal for the winter and dry skin.

How do I apply a face balm? Face balms are usually thick and waterless and best layered over your serum or face oil. Use a small amount (about the size of a pea) and pat gently into skin. Let it absorb fully before applying any other products. Use sparingly - a little goes a long way.

Is Mahealani greasy or oily? Does it absorb completely? Mahealani doesn't stay super oily but makes skin feel super soft with a slight glow. Because it is a thick waterless balm that needs a few minutes to fully absorb. We like it best layered over a water based serum or on damp skin (you need moisture to seal in).

What does the CO2 beside some ingredients mean? Supercritical CO2 extraction is a more sophisticated and purer method of extracting oils from plants. Most of the essential oils we know and love are obtained through steam distillation. This involves heating the plants. Supercritical CO2 extraction uses carbon dioxide gas which is nontoxic, odorless, and easily removed from the extracted oil at the end of the process. Because lower temperatures are used during the process – heat sensitive plant components are preserved. The result is products that are more potent, more stable and have a longer shelf life.

Do I need to use it daily? Yes. To achieve full benefits from your skincare - you need to use them according to instructions. You may start seeing noticeable improvements in your skin tone and texture after about 3 - 4 weeks of regular use.
