How does zinc oxide work? Is it safe? As of 2019, only two SPF ingredients are GRASE (Generally Recognized As Safe and Effective) via the FDA: zinc oxide (broad spectrum) and titanium dioxide (not as broad spectrum as zinc). Zinc oxide protects your lips by sitting on top of them and thus, provides a physical barrier against UVA and UVB rays. It actually deflects the rays away from the skin to prevent any harm. For adequate protection, environmental conditions must be considered (time of day, altitude, season, etc.) and zinc oxide must be applied often.
Are Hurraw lip balms gluten free? GMO free? Yes. Hurraw! Balm's are GMO free and gluten free. While they are NOT certified gluten free, Hurraw balms are tested annually by a 3rd party lab and are shown to be gluten free (less than 2.5ppm gliadin).
Why does Hurraw use plastic tubes? Hurraw n our continuing efforts to reduce plastic use, we are choosing more readily recyclable materials for our products: aluminum, glass and tin. Hurraw always uses recycled pellets in their plastic tubes when available (up to 50%), Tubes are still recyclable #5. Currently, they are unable to source enough recycled PCR (post-consumer recycled material) pellet to make all of their tubes. There goal is to reduce our plastic use by 90% in the next five years as PCR material becomes easily attainable for all manufacturers that rely on plastics and that alternative plastic material and technology continues to be developed.
What is the shelf life? Laboratory stability tests place expiration at 3 years. However, we recommend using your tube of Hurraw! Balm within a year of opening for best results.
Do Hurraw Lip Balms contain Hexane? Hurraw Balms do not use any hexane or other petroleum based solvent derived essential oils.
